You Are What You Eat???
This friend of mine and I had a bit of a disagreement on what you should eat and I was in favor of whatever, but then saw this video and now I don't know. Anyone have any ideas? Do we need to only eat biblically "Clean Foods" or was that just for the past?

Wow! I never knew that. I always have eaten pork etc and never thought anything about it. Is that really so? Guess I have had a few bad reactions to smoked oysters in my day. Tasted great, but didn't sit well with me.

Re: You Are What You Eat???
Joe he's on the mark with that and gives good reason for it. Even without the reasons... it's best to just obey the guidelines anyway, but he makes even a medically compelling case for why it's best to avoid the garbage eaters. At least that's how I feel about it.
If you've got to eat 'em to survive ... I would, and I would eat 'em if served to me at a friends house (1 Corinthians 10:27), but I sure wouldn't buy it for my own table. That goes for smoking and eating tons of sugar or anything that would hurt your body.
Basicly... just don't mess up your physical frame so you can have a good healthy life for the Lord.
You Can Be Pretty Sure The Devil and Most People Don't care what you do with yourself... But God Does! And so do we!

Re: You Are What You Eat???
Here was an interesting thing someone sent me on
Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.
It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings..
DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter? Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.
According to a recent Harvard Medical Study eating margarine compared to butter can hugely increase your chances of heart disease. Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added! Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years . And now, for Margarine. Very High in Trans fatty acids. Triples risk of coronary heart disease. Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..
Lowers quality of breast milk.
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.
And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY
INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC... and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT. These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance). You can try this yourself: Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Re: You Are What You Eat???
JoeJoe, thanks for this reminder on how harmful margarine in; my kids and I discussed this topic a year or so ago, and since then I buy butter, not margarine. But I was still worrying about the calories. The information I have read on this forum shows me how wise my kids were to get me to change what I buy for the family, because butter is natural and good for you (in moderation, of course!)

Re: You Are What You Eat???
Julika, JoeJoe and everybody on the post... I just want to say I sure agree.
Huge issue today with folks just over-stuffing themselves with all sorts of garbage. Overweight and putting themselves at risk for diabetes, heart problems and mobility issues. We should take care of ourselves so we can be a witness for the Lord and take care of those around us. Thanks for posting this. So Needed!

Re: You Are What You Eat???
Thinking about Joejoe's question: 'Are clean (and unclean foods) just something for the past?'; it is worthwhile considering that we must keep ourselves spiritually healthy, too. I have in mind Jesus' words in Matthew 15:16-20, and Peter's vision in Acts 10. Sometimes circumstances are against healthy diet, but if we are well-balanced spiritually, other things will fall into place. Hope this doesn't sound too serious!

Re: You Are What You Eat???
I could take a run at this, if no one minds.
Julika, here are the very good verses you mentioned...
Matthew 15:16-20 (King James Version)Julika, here are the very good verses you mentioned...
16And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
17Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
Acts 10:11-15
11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
I really agree with you a Julia that not washing your hands before eating, or what you eat is going to be a problem spiritually. Jesus was so clear on that. The most important thing was Love.. to Love God and your neighbor as yourself... that was all the Law and the prophets.
Galatians 5:14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Doing What They Had to do
To Get the Job Done
To Get the Job Done
In the book of acts... these men were missionaries going into all the world to preach the gospel... it was their calling... it was their life. Paul said, I became all things to all men that I might be able to win some.
1 Corinthians 9:21-2321To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
Or to put it in modern terms... they did whatever it took to get the job done... and often that was a lot of of Love. They were imprisoned and persecuted and many died for their calling... God's calling on their lives.
Granted not eating unclean foods was put on the shelf, but it didn't mean that eating unclean foods as a regular course of action was best. They ate what was set before them nothing wavering, but it didn't mean that they didn't know the difference and that given a choice that they would eat unclean foods. Food just wasn't the major issue, but as in all the rules that God has set down there was and is a reason for those laws.
Keep the Sabbath ... yes absolutely, but why... because we needed to stop and get our hearts right with God... not just go on blindly without direction. The Sabbath was God's Day... our day to Love Him and put Him 1st. Better to do that every day, but if we get so busy... then at least one day a week. But that law was not greater than Love. Jesus healed the man with the withered hand on the Sabbath and seemingly broke the Law... But what a bunch of bunk... Jesus fulfilled the Law... He was and is God's Love to us All!
Mark 31And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.
2And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.
3And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
4And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
5And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
So likewise with food... we should understand that the laws are there for good reasons. Even doctors will tell many people not to eat warm water sea food when they have certain sicknesses, because they notice how it affects them negatively. God made every creature and he knows what is good for us and what is not. We shouldn't just try and not eat unclean foods, but care for our bodies in every way. The Margarine vs. Butter post is a good example of that. Smoking... etc... things you might not find precisely mentioned in the bible, but that are proven problems... stay away from them if you can. But would I take a drag on a cigarette if I could win the guy to the Lord. Absolutely, but once I got finished with that I wouldn't smoke any more.
1 Corinthians 9:22To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
Sorry this is so long but I really do believe God had good practical reasons for setting down those rules. Not just a test in obedience, but solid physical reasons that possibly doctors or scientist might not find or admit to.
In a pinch
If there was only a pig
Well yap... sure...
Into that oinker I'd surely dig
But if Given a Choice
I'd play it Safe
Because I firmly believe
That's God's suggestion to the Human Race

Re: You Are What You Eat???
Thank you, Fred, for your post. You have summed up so well, letting God's Word do the talking. The main message is always to try your best to act through love - of others and yourself and ultimately of God (and we started off by talking about healthy eating, right?!!)
